Cosmetic dentistry revolves around improving the appearance of teeth/gums. This can range from very simple procedures like recontouring of the teeth to removing chipped edges of teeth (like filing your finger nails) and whitening (zoom or home whitening) to veneering teeth to make them appear straighter and whiter, to at the other end of the spectrum, full mouth makeovers (rebuilds).

There are many techniques available to dentists to alter the appearance subtly or dramatically. For further advice tailored specifically to your individual needs please contact the surgery.

Another example of utilizing the holistic framework in cosmetic dentistry is amalgam removal. Many patients have this done for health reasons, however many do for cosmetic as the white composite look more aesthetically pleasing than the silver/black looking appearance of amalgam fillings. We advise patients to start a detox program to assist in removing mercury stores from the body’s tissues, along with specific homeopathic remedies to aid in the healing process.

Bridges can be used cosmetically to hide gaps and/or replace teeth that have been removed and are important to the bite to replace (i.e to stop the teeth drifting and bite changes).

Crowns are more stronger than veneers and are used to change the shape, colour and appearance of teeth. Because of their superior strength, crowns are also used to reinforce teeth that have large fillings in them, or hold teeth together that have cracks in them.

Gum Drops

Gum drops are another surgical procedure designed to pull down the gum onto the neck of a tooth, usually on a tooth that has been crowned and is showing its margin.

A gingivectomy is the surgical removal of gum tissue. Also called gum resection. Gingivectomies are commonly used to make the teeth appear longer, or create a more even appearance along the gum line.

Teeth Whitening Before & AfterWe use two methods of whitening –the in office and at home systems. Both result in a whiter appearance but differ in time and cost.

The home method involves having specially fitted trays in which you place a solution in them and wear for up to an hour for 10-20 applications.

The Zoom in office whitening system costs more than the home whitening but takes up to an hour and a half to get them white. We also include the home whitening system as well to maintain the new colour.

Patients will need to be assessed by Dr Howard to ensure their suitability for either kind of system as some factors can prevent use.
